Form and genre: Poetry

Length: 160 pages

Summary: Written by an ex student of mine, Caleb writes about life growing up on an estate in North Peckham. He describes what it’s like to be young and black growing up in a concrete jungle. It’s a mixture of photography and poetry but above all functions as a love story to his “endz”. A portrait of the artist as a young man.

Age recommendation and challenging content: Would recommend for KS4, but some extracts could work for Y9.

Notable reasons for recommending this book: Contemporary and very accessible and relatable for most students. Excellent poetry and example as poetry as story-telling.
