Form and genre: fantasy novel, quest

Length: 240 pages

Summary:  Isabella lives on the unchartered islands of Joya, where the recent governor has outlawed travel to most parts of the islands. When her friend and the governor’s daughter goes missing, she embarks on a quest to uncover the islands’ secrets.

Age recommendation and challenging content: Year 7. Minimal violence

Notable reasons for recommending this book: A lovely introduction to the quest genre. Links beautifully to Tolkien as well as The Tempest. Brilliant characterisation, strong diverse female lead.
