Form and genre: Novel
Length: 262 pages
Summary: The story is about Meridian Hill, a you g woman who dedicates her life to Civil Rights work. Set in Southern USA in the 1960s.
Age recommendation and challenging content: Explores ideas related to racism. I’d recommend this novel to Year 8.
Notable reasons for recommending this book: It’s a fairly challenging read but a great discussion book – particularly from a U.K. perspective where so much is said about the Civil Rights movement in the USA. The main reason I loved it so much was for the protagonist. Meridian is unapologetically herself and her activism and fight for equality is at the forefront of every interaction she has.
