COURSE: How to Teach Writing in the English Classroom
This is a full day course for English teachers which will cover a range of key knowledge required for teaching writing, but also provide lots of effective practical strategies to support writing in the classroom. Among other things, Jenny will explore: writing in different forms; writing creative prose; writing poetry; rhetorical writing; journalistic writing; academic writing; grammar for writing, and preparing for writing in exam conditions. This will be suitable to all, including ECTs and more experienced English teachers.
The live course is limited in numbers so that attendees receive a personalised, bespoke experience.
9:00-10:30 – The components of great writing (language awareness – grammar, vocabulary, rhetoric, structure…)
10:30-10:50 – BREAK
10:50-12:00 – Classroom principles: live modelling, literary models, language in context, the role of knowledge
12:00-13:00 – LUNCH
13:00-14:00 – Practical approaches to writing like… an academic, a journalist, a poet, a politician, a novelist…
14:00-14:15 – BREAK
14:15-15:00 – Practical approaches to crafting, editing, technical accuracy and feedback
15:00-15:30 – Q&A (optional)
